A Message from Bob Key on Dottie
To the friends of Dottie Key:
I would like to thank all our friends in the the Dayton Ski Club for the support during Dottie's illness and after her passing for the support given to her and the family in the way of cards, phone calls, visits, food, beautiful flowers, and just the love that was shown by all. Dottie had about 400 people attend the viewing and a large majority were ski club friends. The club has really been a big help in getting me through this time of need and I can never thank all of you enough.

Why ski club trips are better than "Do it Yourself" (DiY) trips
Simply put, the benefits of club trips are not often quantifiable. Not everything in life comes down to dollars and cents.
Here is a comparison, Club vs. DiY trips:
- Club - if a trip is planned by the club you can generally count on it happening, with a high probability. Cancellation by a few people rarely effects whether you go or not.
DiY - trips planned by a few friends can be torpedoed by unforeseen illness, job loss, etc. And the trip ends up being cancelled. If you cancel, you have the regrets associated with missing the trip and perhaps ruining vacation plans for others.
- Club - the club trips are planned and run for you; all you have to do is supply a check and show up on time. You do not have to deal with a travel agency, bussing company, or make lodging and rental car reservations, etc. And a club trip is more likely to qualify for group rates and lower costs which are passed on to you.
DiY - often require individuals working to arrange their own lodging, lift tickets, transportation, etc. All that work and you will likely spend more money by having to pay full price.
- Club - often the clubs knows the resorts well and understands the best places to stay and play for reasonable costs.
DiY – unless you are already familiar with the location, you may pick lodging from a brochure and wind up unhappy with the outcome. That “short walk” to the lift line turns out to be completely relative; it’s short if you compare it to a marathon!
- Club - provides the opportunity to meet new friends; you get a built-in social network for your adventure! You have ski-buddies, dinner-buddies, dancing-buddies; whatever is on tap for the day.
DiY – typically doesn’t offer the chance to meet new friends.
- Club - often offer a number of social events as part of the cost of the trip; cocktail parties, on-mountain parties and ski racing. A great time to socialize, create new memories, and setup those perfect 'Kodak' moments!
DiY - typically does not offer any of the above.
- Club - some people just prefer to ski with larger club groups because they magnify the fun, picture taking opportunities, and fun story sharing.
