The Sun Valley Trip Review
Sun Valley 2012 – Need I say more?
The sky was clear, the mountain range endless, the views breathtaking, and the resort top-notch. A celebrity-type place, where in fact, celebrities are known to frequent. We stayed in condominiums within walking distance to the main facilities and if requested, SV staff would transport you to your resort destination in the comfort of Lexus SUVs or vans, depending on group size. The food was terrific and shopping was plentiful both at the resort and in nearby Ketchum. The resort hosted hilarious comedians for entertainment for a nominal charge which many enjoyed.
Sun Valley is known for it’s two mountains: Dollar Mountain, a smaller ski area more geared towards beginners and a nice warm-up mountain for those who haven’t been on the slopes in awhile, and Bald Mountain, with a huge variety of terrain and a little more challenging conditions. Most commented that the green runs were blues, the blues were black, and well the black . . . And, there were no lift lines – anywhere.
Several members participated in the downhill races held on Bald Mountain on a challenging course in Warm Springs on a day after we received a foot of snow and light conditions on the mountain were a bit flat. Even with those conditions, two members, Karen Klute and JR Hein, proudly won bronze metals. Hooray! That evening many of the DSBC group enjoyed an authentic horse-driven sleigh ride to Trails End, a cabin restaurant in the wilderness where Hemmingway enjoyed dining during his stays in Sun Valley.
Those who didn’t downhill ski, enjoyed snowshoeing, cross-country skiing, tubing, and the spa facilities at the resort.
All in all, everyone praised the resort, the mountains and the trip in general. If you haven’t been to Sun Valley, Idaho, make plans to visit as it’s one of the best ski areas and resort facilities in the United States and beyond!
