A Message from Bob Key on Dottie
To the friends of Dottie Key:
I would like to thank all our friends in the the Dayton Ski Club for the support during Dottie's illness and after her passing for the support given to her and the family in the way of cards, phone calls, visits, food, beautiful flowers, and just the love that was shown by all. Dottie had about 400 people attend the viewing and a large majority were ski club friends. The club has really been a big help in getting me through this time of need and I can never thank all of you enough.

Policy E-1. Boat Owner Policy
1. Sign-Up Policy
Boat Owners intending to participate as such on Weekend Trips will identify themselves by circling “BOAT OWNER” and filling out the information needed on each trip application. The boat owner must submit checks payable to the DSBC for the amounts specified for the cost of the trip, at the time of sign-up. These checks will be held on file until after the boat owner has fulfilled his/her duties as a boat owner for the duration of the trip.
Boat Owners/Trip Leaders will be allowed one additional sign-up slot for a member companion of his/her choice, to be named at least (2) weeks prior to trip departure. Boat Owners/Trip Leaders intending to reserve a slot on the trip for a companion; must declare so at sign-up. Checks payable to the DSBC as specified for the cost of the trip must be submitted by the boat owner/trip leader or their companion at the time of sign-up and are subject to the standard cancellation policy for that trip. (5 weeks for condo trips and 2 weeks prior to departure for camping trips.) After the trip, boat owners will receive their reimbursement discount.
2. More Boat Owners than needed
In the event more Boat Owners sign-up for a trip than is needed, Boat Owners will be selected on a first come first served basis. The number of boats needed will be based upon the number of participants. Pleasure boats will not receive a discount.
If a boat owner accepts a position on the trip as a participant (not a boat owner) and later decides to cancel, then he/she will be subject to the normal cancellation policy.
3. Registration And Responsibilities
For the duration of a Club trip, only one person is recognized as the owner of a particular boat. Boats must have a rating of at least 150 HP, be Coast Guard approved to carry five people, and be between 17 and 22 ft. in length. The Board of Trustees will consider exceptions to these requirements on a case-by-case basis. All boats must be equipped as specified by Ohio, Kentucky, Indiana, and Tennessee state laws; fully insured; and in good working condition for the duration of the trip. To be a boat owner on a DSBC trip, a DSBC “Boat Owner Information Form” must be completed and given to the Summer Trip Trustee prior to sign-up date. The registration number and a copy of the boat insurance policy must be on file with the Board of Trustees prior to trip departure. It will be kept confidential within that office. It is recommended that all boat owners complete a legitimate boating course taught by the proper authorities.
Boat owners that are participating on a DSBC water ski trip for the first time or who are unfamiliar with the lake will be assigned to an experienced boat owner (mentor) with whom they will stay in close contact for the duration of the trip.
4. Travel Fuel
Boat owners must complete a gas report form for each trip and must present gas receipts no later than thirty (30) days from the trip return date, to receive reimbursement. The Club will reimburse gas usage (RECEIPTS REQUIRED) and the boat owner is not to accept reimbursement from trip participants. Any participating boat owner for a club trip that fails to furnish receipts will be issued reimbursement in the amount not to exceed fifty ($50).
5. Dock Tabs
Fuel tanks for boats are to be full for the start of the first day of skiing at the owner’s expense. Boat owners and participants arriving early and skiing do so at their own expense.
A dock tab will be opened for DSBC Boat owners for fuel and ice.
All expenses not on dock tabs during that time must be presented to the Trip Leader(s) within thirty (30) days of return date. They must be in the form of a legal receipt and include the name of the person to be paid, nature of expense, amount, date, and name of the person or company who provided the service. Only legitimate expenses will be reimbursed. Boat owners must sign dock tabs with signature, printed name, and DSBC membership number.
6. General
The following clarifies what is expected of the boat owners and use of their boats on DSBC trips:
During hazardous or inclement weather, the boat owner is not expected to pick up passengers. However, at the request of the Trip Leader(s), you would be expected to pick up passengers at the dock until 12:00 midnight.
During prime water skiing hours, each boat must carry no fewer than four (4) passengers, besides the owner, (excluding special boat runs such as injury, etc.) while water skiing on a regular basis throughout the day. A concerted effort should be made so that all trip participants receive a minimum amount of water skiing or boat time. Boats carrying four or five participants, besides the boat owner, must make a minimum of three runs per day. Boats carrying six or more, excluding the owner, must make a minimum of two runs per day. In both cases, boat owners must change crews after each run (excluding companion). The so-called “social group swims” must be kept to a minimum, at least until after all participants have been out skiing at least once. Boat engines shall be turned off when any person is in the water near the boat.
Boat owners must have full insurance coverage against damage or bodily harm for their boat and passengers for the full duration of the trip.
Boat owners have the right to reject any person(s) as passenger(s) whom they deem unsafe, due to substance abuse or misconduct. Boat owners should also understand that Trip Leader(s) might reject you as a boat owner if they deem you unsafe, due to substance abuse, or misconduct on a trip. Boat owners should maintain the safety of people on the lake at all times.
In the past, compliance with our Boat Owner’s Policy has been good. However, to prevent the rare abuse, Trip Leader(s) will be instructed to report any serious violations of the policy to the Summer Trip Trustee for appropriate action. If the complaint is deemed warranted, the boat owner will be issued a warning. Subsequent violations may cause that boat owner to be excluded from further boat owner participation, and may also cause the boat owner to be fined.
A copy of this Boat Owner Policy manual will be given to boat owners at the time of sign up.
