A Message from Bob Key on Dottie

To the friends of Dottie Key:

I would like to thank all our friends in the the Dayton Ski Club for the support during Dottie's illness and after her passing for the support given to her and the family in the way of cards, phone calls, visits, food, beautiful flowers, and just the love that was shown by all. Dottie had about 400 people attend the viewing and a large majority were ski club friends. The club has really been a big help in getting me through this time of need and I can never thank all of you enough.

Banff, Canada

March 27 to April 3, 2010

Where to start... There are so many choice words to describe this trip, incredible, amazing, beautiful, and on and on. Dayton Ski and Board Club traveled, along with other OVSC clubs, on this Spring trip to Banff, Canada. We stayed at the Fairmont Banff Springs Hotel where we enjoyed the hospitality of hotel staff and took pleasure of the hotel’s many amenities. We arrived in Banff on Saturday afternoon with enough time to explore the quaint town and our own hotel castle. Sunday everyone enjoyed a day of leisure, skiing, exploring, and excitedly planning their week. That evening, we enjoyed a fabulous spread at the Welcoming Party in one of the hotel’s elegant banquet rooms.

With three very different ski resorts from which to choose, there was something for everyone. Mt. Norquay, the local spot, hosted the OVSC races and Mountain Picnic providing a scrumptious BBQ lunch for all. DSBC members, Frank Brooks and Jeanne Brooks placed in the top three times for men and women.

Lake Louise offered a wide terrain of skiing for all levels, and on a beautiful sunny day hosted the Poker Run proving to be great fun for all who participated. Again, Jeanne Brooks won an award, this time for the best hand. John Williamson won worst hand with a 10 high.

Sunshine Village, which sat deep in the mountain range required a scenic gondola ride to the main resort. Beautiful mountain views were combined with amazing skiing and the most fresh powder. All three resorts were favorites.

We made out like “fat cats” on this trip. Not only were we treated to the Welcoming Party and Mountain Picnic, but we were also treated with an Apres Ski Party Tuesday evening at one of the town’s local bar and grill restaurants, and ended our trip with another hotel-hosted Farewell Dinner Dance in yet another elegant banquet room with spectacular views.

Those not skiing or taking a break for a day adventured out hiking the hotel grounds to the waterfalls and an abundance of scenic nature. Some shopped the towns’ quaint shops, enjoyed the hotel’s spa services, ventured to the nearby natural hot springs, and a few even dog sledded across the lake and mountain range. Nightlife was abundant with many casual to fine dining restaurants from which to choose, local bars offering musical entertainment, and fun just hanging out in one of the many hotel lounges with cocktails and friends.

Oh, did I mention the weather – perfect, 30s and 40s. Upon our arrival, Mother Nature provided us fresh snow at all three resorts, with as much as 31 cm of fresh powder at Sunshine during the course of our stay.

I could go on and on about our trip to Banff, but you must see it for yourself to appreciate all it has to offer. I’ll definitely be going back, hopefully in the not too distant future. See ya there!
